- I have an a4000 with 12 megs fast ram and wanted to use the
- IDE 124 meg disk to play with netbsd.
-
- I downloaded the netbsd distribution and placed it in work:bsd-store
- as follows:
- 7.Work:BSD-store> ls -R
-
- ----------------------
- Work:BSD-store/binary/base11
- base11.tar CKSUMS
-
- Work:BSD-store/binary/comp11
- CKSUMS comp11.tar
-
- Work:BSD-store/binary/etc11
- CKSUMS etc11.tar
-
- Work:BSD-store/binary/games11
- CKSUMS games.tar
-
- Work:BSD-store/binary/man11
- CKSUMS man11.tar
-
- Work:BSD-store/binary/misc11
- CKSUMS misc11.tar
-
- Work:BSD-store/binary/text11
- CKSUMS text11.tar
-
- Work:BSD-store/kernel
- netbsd
-
- Work:BSD-store/miniroot
- inst-11.fs upgr-11.fs
-
- Work:BSD-store/security
- CKSUMS README.export-control secr11.tar
-
- Work:BSD-store/utils
- loadbsd rdbinfo README xstreamtodev
- ----------------------
-
- I used the hdtoolbox to partition it into three sections
- UX0: (root) 15 Meg
- UX1: (swap) 17 Meg
- UX2: (usr) 90 Meg
-
- I selected the advanced options to set the custom file system
- ID, and 0 for both start and end. This was done for each
- partition, and the dos type id was set properly for each partition.
-
- I clicked on save-changes, then exit, then rebooted.
-
-
- Then, I went to the utils section and ran the folowing:
- xstreamtodev --input=inst-11.fs --rdb-name=UX1:
-
- It reports back:
- warn: could not locate a partition with your specs.
-
- I tried adding the --device but it just won't seem to scan the IDE bus.
-
- Some questions: where should inst-11.fs be? in L:?
- Do I need to mount the drive to run xstreamtodev? (if so,
- what would be an easy way to do this?)
- Will the extract utility (once I get things up) care that
- I have already concatenated and uncompressed the
- xxx11.aa .. xxx11.zz stuff? (if so,is it a shell
- script so that I can easily change this?)
